Fundraising activity over the British GP, including our Day of Champions event on the Thursday and other activities across the weekend of the Monster Energy British MotoGP™ event at Silverstone raised a grand total of £206,550!
Thanks to the never-ending generosity of racing fans and MotoGP™ teams and riders, the crucial work being done on the ground in some of Africa’s most remote regions will get a big boost to funding.
Highlights from the event include:
- Day of Champions auction £77,550
- Saturday evening auction £22,850
- Valentino Rossi chequered flag £4500
- Kenny Roberts Snr. crash helmet worn at the Goodwood Festival of Speed £3800
What was raised
The grand total of £206,550 was made up of the auctions listed above but also from Day of Champions ticket sales, tickets for the ride in, the helmet park, merchandise and the sale of the MotoGP two-seater rides. There may be some small additional add-ons to the total in coming days.
On stage action!
Riders from MotoGP™, Moto2 and Moto3 classes were involved in the Day of Champions auction with host and racing commentator Michael Hill on stage to help with selling off the unique memorabilia and kind donations from teams and riders. After two years of covid-related disruption, this year’s event was the first to be back to normal since 2019.
The highlights of the live auction included the sale of the chequered flag used to end the final race of nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi’s final race at Valencia in 2021. Signed by Rossi and with a certificate of authenticity, the flag sold for £4500.
